PURPOSE OF THE JOB To be aligned to the business area, manage the delivery of the audit plan for the area and to ensure that audit assignments are undertaken in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and quality standards. Be responsible and accountable for the quality of the audit work performed and the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit team RESPONSIBILITIES - Take responsibility for the development and delivery of annual audit plans
- Review and challenge audit assignment scoping documents
- Perform a sample review of Design Effectiveness Assessments (DEA) and Operating Effectiveness Testing (OET) working papers
- Lead discussions with business stakeholders regarding issues identified and audit observations
- Take responsibility for overall management of audit teams and ensuring audits progress, in relation to scope, budget and timetable
- Review and issue audit reports as per the Internal Audit plan and in line with requirements
- Actively monitor team KPIs and act to achieve them consistently and monitor the teams' progress
- Provide oversight on the timely performance of all issue assurance testing performed and review all working papers
- Support management in developing innovative action plans to address control issues identified
- Update awareness of risk issues and changes across relevant business areas and use this knowledge to set strategy and direction in terms of planning
- Understand developments across business areas which may impact the audit plan including changing economic, market, technology and risk environment
- Use expert knowledge to continually refocus the audit plan and define direction into the future
- Use knowledge effectively to continually assess evolving risks to set team strategy and direction.
- Look beyond the current year audit plan to set long range goals for audit focus
- Maintain effective relationships with business to keep abreast of risk and control issues
- Actively monitor team KPIs and act to achieve them consistently
- Perform people management functions, including but not limited to:
- workforce and recruitment demand planning
- recruitment
- talent management and succession planning
- mentoring and coaching
- management of discipline and grievances
- performance development
- reward and recognition management
- training and development
- Ensure that Code of Good Practice targets are met for the team.
- Ensure satisfactory service delivery and equal distribution of workloads in the teams

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Honours B Degree in a Commercial, Informatics or Statistics or equivalent NQF level 7 qualification or higher
- Six (6) years experience in internal or external audit or commensurate experience in a major financial institution or the Big 4 auditing firms
- Four (4) years experience in risk based auditing or risk or control activities
- Experience in managing a team or department
- Banking experience gained through auditing or in line management
- Relevant experience in risk based auditing or risk/control activities
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and the Internet
- No criminal record
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS - CA (SA), CIA, CISA or equivalent international qualification
- Relevant banking industry qualification with the SA Institute of Bankers
- International experience either gained through working overseas or substantial assignment based international experience
- Preference will be given to South African Citizens and Permanent residents of South Africa in possession of proof of permanent resident status
