The underwriter will be responsible for evaluating commercial loan transactions in accordance with COF standards. Additional responsibilities include market research, due diligence, and other information-gathering activities required to support sound decision-making. The underwriter will also perform other duties as necessary to support broader COF goals and objectives. • The underwriter will work closely with senior underwriters in the preparation of financial statement reports, loan approval documents, risk modeling, and loan administration. Strong critical thinking and written and oral communication skills are required. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Structure and underwrite credit facilities in a manner which achieves profitability goals while staying within risk parameters. Evaluate new prospects based on company financial statements, management, quality of collateral, capital structure, liquidity, market position and industry dynamics. • Spread and analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow statements, and collateral reports of prospective Borrowers and Guarantors. Review management projections and develop scenarios which sensitize certain management assumptions and insure the proposed loan structure meets the financing requirements of the prospect within COF risk parameters. • Prepare the written credit approval memoranda and related documents for prospective credit facilities. • Determine the proper risk rating for all facilities in accordance with policy guidelines and complete the required paperwork for any subsequent rating changes. • Work with senior underwriters to support client relationships, exhibiting a sense of urgency when meeting client requests. • Understand and promote bank products to assist the senior underwriters in meeting profitability targets. • Partner with Loan Administration and outside counsel in the preparation, review and approval of loan documentation to ensure the documents meet agreed upon business terms and Capital One credit approval guidelines. • Coordinate the transition of a new business prospect to account management. • Foster an open dialogue and strong working relationship with Risk Management, Loan Administration, and other groups that support and review the line of business. • Understand and employ all policies and procedures of the Bank. Remain up-to-date on all bank compliance regulatory policies and procedures and on all pending and proposed regulatory changes affecting bank compliance. • Ordering and reviewing Field Examinations, Appraisals and Environmentals (as necessary). • Research industries and markets in preparation for financial/credit analysis. • Perform on-site due diligence, as applicable. Qualifications Preferred Qualifications It is preferred that the candidate has experience in the following areas: • Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting • 1-2 years of commercial finance experience • Proficiency with Microsoft Office • Ability communicate in a concise and clear manner, both orally and in writing • Loan underwriting experience • Strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively.
