Global Wealth & Retirement Solutions ("GWRS") develops and manages wealth management, investment management & retirement management solutions for our high net worth clients. The IMG Investment Analytics group is part of the Global Wealth & Retirement Solutions group at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management and develops and manages investment solutions for our high net worth clients. IMG develops and delivers scaled and customized Asset Allocation and Wealth Allocation guidance to FAs and their clients. The IMG Investment Analytics group is responsible for conceptualizing, developing and delivering analytical frameworks, services and infrastructure for asset allocation, risk analytics, portfolio management, retirement management and performance analysis across both traditional, market linked & alternative investments. This includes strategic & tactical asset allocation modeling, fund and portfolio diagnostics, quantitative portfolio construction, optimization and outcomes-driven investment solutions design. IMG Investment Analytics develops analytics and associated models to offer robust advice to FAs and their clients across traditional, market linked and alternative investments, as well as annuities and insurance products globally.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Top performing quantitative equity portfolio manager or researhc analyst. Manages the largest and potentially most complex and important accounts and/or independently conducts the most complex and significant research studies/analyses. Acts independently within investment policy guidelines. Focus on model building and refinement and/or portfolio construction. Typically involved in sales and possibly relationship management. May serve on investment committee. Often manages more junior staff. Typically has 10 or more yrs investment experience. Consistently strong investment performance. Recognized internally and externally as a top performing portfolio manager and/or research analyst.



Reporting to the Managing Director of Investment Analytics, this deeply quantitative role will conceptualize, develop and implement analytical frameworks, methodologies and models to conduct and support investment analytics, with a focus on retirement and outcomes-driven investment related initiatives, within the Investment Management & Guidance (IMG) group at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management. The candidate will possess substantial experience in the investment / financial area, with expertise in retirement and outcomes-driven investment analytics and products that support this initiative with a focus on liability-driven investing and decumulation analysis. This is a great opportunity to provide a meaningful contribution to the evolution of retirement and outcomes-oriented investment solutions within one of the largest global wealth management organizations.

Key responsibilities for this highly visible position as a Senior Quantitative Analyst include:

  • Develop and implement large scale enterprise-wide retirement outcomes driven and decumulation and outcomes driven investment framework and associated analytics for individual investors.
  • Research, write whitepapers and develop presentation slides describing the new retirement and outcomes management framework. Contribute to developing a financial advisor training module on adopting such an approach.
  • Collaborate with key internal partners in the development of outcomes oriented retirement income management products and analytical tools including participation in internal stakeholder and financial advisor (FA) meetings to educate and explain the framework.
  • Develop and contribute to the robust modeling of retirement outcome management products such as Annuities and other products with guarantees. Quantify allocations to such products in an outcomes oriented retirement income management framework.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of scaled and customized Strategic, Dynamic and Tactical Asset Allocation and Wealth Allocation guidance to Financial Advisors and clients, particularly as it relates to investment management in decumulation with preferences over specific outcomes.
  • Conduct economic and financial analysis of asset classes and investment manager strategies, including alternative investments.

Qualifications



Required:

  • Ten or more years' relevant experience at a top tier financial institution. Experience may encompass many of the following: liability driven investing, actuarial experience, investment product / program development, quantitative investment modeling and investment analytics with material knowledge of Behavioral Finance/Economics.
  • An advanced degree(s) from a top-tier institution is required, preferably in Business, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Financial Engineering, Statistics or Mathematics with a focus on Behavioral Finance/Economics.
  • Substantial quantitative experience in developing and executing scalable outcomes driven investment initiatives, including relevant quantitative experience with multiperiod portfolio optimization, asset-liability modeling and stochastic & dynamic programming for private clients at a top tier financial institution.
  • Strong quantitative and modeling skills including a demonstrated ability to construct and examine models, data, strategies, and structured products in a multi-faceted way.
  • Knowledge of financial markets, portfolio management concepts, probability theory and statistical / econometric modeling and their application to investment and portfolio management principles.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced and challenging environment; a team-player with ability to build relationships across the combined Bank of America - Merrill Lynch organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to translate complex quantitative concepts into common-sense terms and thinking.


Desired:
  • Experience with high-level languages (such as Splus, Matlab and XL/VBA) preferred.
  • Managerial experience, a plus.
  • A Ph.D. and CFA /CAIA designation is preferred. Series 7 and 66, a plus.
