Job Purpose

Be a leading part of a team of .net application developers, working with project managers and solution designers to deliver world class finance applications to support the Retail and Business Banking community.

Understand and leverage the n-tier application framework and architecture to ensure all applications are strategically built and are reusable or make use of existing components to drive down cost and time to deliver.

Be seen as a leader and an expert in the field of .net development; coach and develop junior members of the team, while looking to develop yourself by keeping up to date with the latest technology and finding innovative new ways to deliver results.

Main Accountabilities Subject Matter Expert

· Be seen as a subject matter expert and always available to solve problems, conduct a peer review of code and coach junior developers

· Work closely with onshore and offshore developers to ensure best utilisation of resource and allocation of project work.

· Understand the application architecture and ensure all solutions are developed according to standards and best practice.

· Continually strive to develop yourself and stay abreast of new technologies and emerging methodologies.

Application Development

· Work to and contribute to solution design documents, translating business requirements into technical designs that can be used to effectively build applications.

· Own project plans for every application and contribute to overall team status reports.

· Develop, work to, refine and implement world class standards across the team.

· Independently identify repetitive or time consuming processes that can be automated, especially where they benefit multiple business areas.

· Consume and produce data from a variety of sources, outputting where necessary to downstream applications, or updating the source.

· Design, develop and deliver innovative and tactical solutions to benefit the finance community.

· Identify and resolve problems, working closely with the business and support teams.

· Work on a variety of projects simultaneously.

· Understand and implement agile methodologies.

· Be able to contribute to status updates, and own risk or issues to give early visibility of problems.

Product Evaluation

· Evaluate, pilot and implement a range of new technologies, often prototyping in a ring-fenced environment.

· Work closely with other areas of the business in Proof of Concept projects, integrating code and data seamlessly.

· Keep up to date on Application Development technologies and methodologies, and lead others in their implementation.

Production and Delivery

· Drive the BAU support function forward, both with good rounded knowledge of the systems developed, and also excellent supporting documentation.

· Liaise between the business and technology areas, to fully understand problems and communicate and, where applicable, implement any resolution.

· As 3 rd line support, analyse and identify common problems and look to provide root cause analysis. Build up a comprehensive knowledge base to reduce future resolution times.

· Technical Skills / Competencies Excellent working knowledge of any of the following programming languages:

o Asp.net (preferably .net framework 4)

o C#

o javascript

o HTML

o XML

o JSon

o JQuery

o WCF

· Proven track record of developing applications using Visual Studio (preferably 2010):

o Working from, and contributing to, technical specifications

o organising and running unit testing

o preparing for deployment to live

o maintaining the stability of live applications as 3 rd line support.

o Debugging applications in a locally ring-fenced environment

o Working in a source controlled environment; being able to plan and work to tasks in TFS.

o Working to agile methodologies; preparing tasks against user stories and being able to deliver in sprints.

· Good working knowledge and experience of SQL Server (preferably 2005), specifically:

o Designing logical models; creating and maintaining databases.

o Writing efficient queries to support downstream applications.

o Updating and replacing legacy code from disparate data sources

o Creating reusable and dynamic code

o Automating, scheduling and performing ETL processes using, for example, SSIS.

· Ability to work individually, or in collaboration, on a variety of projects.

· General understanding of operating systems and application interactivity.

· Ability to troubleshoot and find solutions to technical problems - you should be able to clearly communicate these to 2 nd and 1 st line support areas to help build up an effective knowledge base and increase 1 st line resolution statistics.
