INTRODUCTION: Aon Global Risk Consulting has an exciting career opportunity for a Global Risk Manager. This position will be an outsourced role serving an Aon client located in downtown Chicago

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is the senior insurance and risk management position within LaSalle Investment Management (LIM), a leading global real estate investment management company, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It is a wholly owned but operationally independent subsidiary of Jones Lang LaSalle. From a client perspective, this position reports to LaSalle's General Counsel and will have responsibility for risk management operations, with three regional risk managers as direct reports. LIM's risk management team is part of Jones Lang LaSalle's global risk management group.

The primary responsibilities will include the assessment and management of LIM's corporate risks; setting standards for review and negotiation of insurance provisions in global contracts; direct negotiation of key contracts; placement and renewal of corporate insurance policies and global property / casualty program; working with LIM Regional COOs re risk assessment and special projects.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Thorough knowledge of all areas of commercial insurance, including international insurance placements
  • Expertise in implementing established risk management practices
  • Experience in managing insurance broker relationships
  • Awareness of current issues in the field of risk management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills,
    • Demonstrated proficiency in standard business documents; ability to draft directives, write general correspondence of a caliber generally required by professionals, and use of written communication to effectively explain positions taken in conjunction with contract negotiations
    • Verbal skills to include ability to explain technical insurance issues in "plain English," to discuss insurance and general business concepts relating to leases, agreements and contracts, and the ability to negotiate effectively with attorneys and clients on behalf of LaSalle and its clients
  • Interpersonal skills needed to maintain good working relationships with brokers, insurers, vendors, clients and all levels of LIM's employees
  • Ability to work for and with others on projects, either as part of a team or team leader
  • Flexibility regarding assignments, responsiveness to the needs of the company and its clients
  • Positive attitude toward the company and risk management
  • Good work ethic, i.e., strong commitment to ethical behavior, punctuality and regular attendance, follow-through and completion of projects, etc.
  • Real estate industry knowledge, preferred, but not required
  • General familiarity with legal processes; experience in working directly with legal counsel
  • Administrative and organizational skills are critical; must be detail oriented
  • Time management skills are important; must be flexible and able to handle a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Computer skills - experienced in Windows environment, Word, Excel and Access
  • Willingness to travel internationally


JOB TASKS

  • Manage negotiation of insurance and risk provisions of global business contracts; oversee implementation of regional contract risk management standards, modify insurance programs as required by contract
  • Oversee, direct and manage regional risk managers
  • Ensure suitable and consistent property insurance policies are in place across all clients and funds whether they participate in the LIM program or not
  • Maximize the efficiency of the renewal process through automating/streamlining the data collection process and providing timely and accurate outputs to the business
  • Regularly engage with regional business leaders to understand their insurance requirements and process preferences
  • Be the resource for regional risk managers on corporate insurance issues
  • Work directly with LIM senior management to identify risk strategies and corporate projects
  • Update global master insurance program handbook; work with regional managers to create a global risk management manual
  • Work with LIM IT on AUM (assets under management) database
  • Assist with claim management and help to identify lessons learned to feed back to the business
  • Assist with special projects as requested

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of eight to ten years' experience within a risk management environment, insurance company or brokerage experience handling national or global accounts.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or Risk Management field required. Masters Degree, CRM, ARM designation, CPCU coursework a plus.
