A rare opportunity has arisen within the Economics team at ANZ Institutional Bank.
This is a chance for an experienced economist or strategist to take on an integral and highly challenging role within the Institutional business of ANZ. ANZ Institutional Bank focuses on providing a market leading range of trade, global markets and transaction banking services.
As Economist, Senior Economist or Strategist you will contribute to the operation of the Bank's Economics division and provide input into the Bank's decision making processes. Your mandate is to provide high quality research and advice on topical macroeconomic and financial market issues, both internally to the Bank and to external Bank clients, to assist them in achieving their business objectives.
Your accountabilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • Working in conjunction with the Chief Economist and Head of Markets to identify strategic and tactical opportunities that support sustainable growth across the business.
  • Undertaking research on global and local economic trends and developments.
  • Provide key input into macroeconomic and financial market forecasts.
  • Making tactical and strategic market calls that support the growth and profitability of the markets business and balance sheet.
  • Presenting a strategic view to stakeholders and linking economic analysis with developments in financial markets to provide creative solutions for clients
Skills, knowledge & experience required:
  • High-level experience in an economic policy-making institution (e.g. RBNZ), or as an economist / strategist in a financial institution.
  • A thorough knowledge of the structure of the New Zealand economy, and of the principal New Zealand economic policy-making institutions and their operating procedures.
  • Ability to apply modern quantitative and statistical techniques to the analysis and forecasting of the New Zealand economy, interest rates and exchange rates.
  • An honours (4-year) degree in Economics (or its equivalent), or higher.
  • Experience in credibly representing the Economics team to the media.
Highly developed analytical skills and the ability to present your findings to senior management will be crucial to your success in securing this role. Sound knowledge of historical economic trends, proven ability to understand and apply strategic concepts, and a passion for markets are essential.
You will be joining an experienced and highly motivated team, and will be given every chance to grow and develop within the role, and across the wider ANZ Group.
This opportunity can be Auckland or Wellington based.
