Business Analyst - Business Intelligence Group Job Details

Function of Business Intelligence Group

The BIG team was set up in 2008 to take advantage of industry-standard Business Intelligence / Reporting tools to create pre-packaged product extensions which provide quick and easy access to the uniquely rich source of data and results held within Algorithmics' core products. Recently the group developed Algo Strategic Business Planning which brings together results from across Algorithimcs product range and non-Algorithmics systems to provide a holistic view of risk and return, and includes sophisticated projections and optimization. To date development has been in Business Objects, but the focus is now on the Cognos BI platform.

Responsibilities

The BIG team is a small and highly skilled team. The role of Business Analyst is to work with the other members of the team to build, test, document, support and maintain BI solutions for the Algorithmics solutions.

Duties

• Understand / document business requirements / functional requirements
• Create / maintain where necessary, underlying databases structures with associated ETL configurations
• Create / maintain Cognos Frameworks and Reports
• Test and document own and other team members' work
• Assist in training of Algo Support and Implementation teams
• Liaise with technical support to resolve support issues
• Ad hoc analysis and report building to support Pre-Sales activities

• Experience of working with Business Intelligence Tools, specifically Cognos
• Reasonable knowledge of Databases
• Degree 2:1 or higher in relevant subjects (Maths, Economics, Business, Computer Science etc.)
• Proven experience as a business analyst or similar experience in a consultancy/accounting practice or banking operations environment.
• Testing experience
• Valid work permit

Skills required

• Excellent knowledge of Business Intelligence Tools, specifically Cognos and ideally of porting from BO to Cognos.
• Ad hoc SQL querying, preferably Oracle
• Strong QA and testing knowledge
• Attention to detail
• Analytical and problem solving mindset
• Strong communication skills, good command of English, both verbal and written
• Keen enthusiasm to solve problems of any kind
• Quick to pick up new concepts and ideas
• Good sense of humour and an ability to thrive in a growing and dynamic organisation
• Self reliant, self starter, self motivated, requiring minimal supervision
• Ability to work alone and in a team environment

• Some incidental international travel may be required
