Role Summary/Purpose The Property Accountant works closely with the Senior Property Accounting Manager to complete all aspects of accounting for a portfolio of properties in the Greater Toronto Area. Essential Responsibilities Responsible for closing the books and records on a monthly basis including journal entries, accruals and account analysis Delivery of detailed property budgets for senior management review Preparation of year-end cost audit statement packages Complete detailed balance sheet account reconciliations on a quarterly basis Analytical review and comparative analysis of monthly operating results to budget forecasting and prior periods Responding to queries from other departments and senior management Set up, review and analysis of fixed assets and related amortization/depreciation Qualifications/Requirements 2 years of experience in accounting, preferably in property accounting Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience working with different types of computer applications, preferably in a commercial real estate environment Desired Characteristics University Degree or College Diploma, preferably in Accounting or Finance Professional accounting designation Experience working with commercial real estate accounting software like JD Edwards or YARDI Strong analytical and problem solving skills Able to work independently or as a team Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a multi-tasking environment The ability to communicate clearly with all levels of the organization Experience interpreting leases
