Network Management Services Analyst



Overall Job Purpose



The Network Engineering Analyst reports to a Lead Network Engineering Technologist.


The Network Engineering Analyst will support the Network Engineering function


The Network Engineering Analyst will provide input and design to network infrastructure solutions and will have a basic knowledge across many infrastructure components.


Design and oversee changes to the network management infrastructure.


Interfacing with internal stakeholders.


Technical administration and documentation.


Be an active participant within the team.



Key Accountabilities & approximate time split (%)%3C/SPAN>



Functional Accountability (90%):


Will assist the Network Engineering Team to ensure that network infrastructure initiatives adhere to the network management roadmap.


Create and Maintain necessary capability, knowledge and skills personally and within GRCBT to deliver a world class Network Monitoring Strategy.


Keeping knowledge of Barclays Infrastructure Products and Services current


Keeping knowledge of Supplier Infrastructure Products and Services current


Keeping knowledge of Network Management Products and Services current


Promote the use of Technical Standards, Procedures and Best Practice.



Compliance (10 %)%3CBR/>
Ensure compliance to all GRCBT disciplines including:


Adherence to financial plans, processes and GRCBT commitments.


Compliance to all regulatory, risk and audit requirements.


Undertake work outside of direct responsibility when required.



Person Specification



Technical Knowledge


Knowledge of specific technical platforms:


Basic knowledge of cisco infrastructure. Ability to configure switchports, trunks create and assign vlans


Broad knowledge of the TCPIP protocol Suite, VLSM, IP address allocation and internal routing protocols. Ability to use a packet analysis tool to dissect TCP/IP.


Experience of WAN routing technologies


Some experience in designing and implementing network solutions.


Experience in basic firewall theory, rule generation, configuration, constructing rulesets and requirements gathering


Good understanding of DNS/DHCP & tools used to support this



Knowledge of network management:


Solid understanding of Network Management/Monitoring Practises


Good knowledge of Network Monitoring toolset


Good understanding of SNMP and can explain how it works


Good understanding of Netflow processes & tools


Solid knowledge of major Network Monitoring products and vendor solution


Understanding of the ITIL model


Can understand and talk to FCAPS model


Competent in discussing the technology with vendor escalation support team



Service Delivery


Understands how service delivery applies to own technical function:


Understands how to measure service delivery with metrics and targets.


Understands performance measurements for hardware, software or network components.



Service Support


Understands how service support applies to own technical function:


Has experience of incident & problem management disciplines.


Has experience in maintaining technical reference documents.


Familiar with technical documentation standards, guidelines and best practices



Security Management


Has a working knowledge of the key issues in implementing security within networking infrastructure:


Experiences with tools and techniques for securing/hardening a network infrastructure


Familiar with existing policies and practices




IT Architecture


Familiar with integration and implementation issues and their architectural implications.


Experiences in the integration and migration of existing and planned network infrastructure solutions.


Assist in defining architectural principles and standards.


Knowledgeable about existing best practices for network technology integration.



Essential


A logical, analytical approach to problem solving and close attention to detail.


Strong Knowledge of Cisco Device Monitoring/Management.


Good knowledge of HP OpenView Monitoring/Management products.


Good knowledge of DNS/DHCP and relevant products.


Demonstrate understanding of the use of Netflow traffic Analyser.


Understanding of the use of LAN/WAN probes and their function.


A strong awareness of Capacity Monitoring/Management and reporting tools.


Knowledge and understanding of Firewall Monitoring.


Awareness of industry best practices in the network monitoring arena.


A forward thinker


Must have experience of working in an IT Network Management/Monitoring environment and an understanding of configuration/deployment strategies. Experience gained from outside the Bank can be very valuable particularly large organisations and/or suppliers or manufacturers.


Experience and demonstrable track record of delivery of Management/Monitoring tools into Network support group and demonstrate the use of the products.


Highly knowledgeable of industry standards and themes relevant to application development and application support (e.g. ITIL; CMMI; Extended Delivery/Outsourcing/Offshoring).
