PURPOSE OR OBJECTIVE:
To deputize and assist the Senior Risk Advisor of Risk Management Services in the protection of Fairmont Raffles Hotels International (FRHI) risk management and insurance programs, as required under the Risk Management Service Contract, with the objective of protecting FRHI from financial loss as a result of damage to or destruction of its assets and claims of outside parties.
To counsel FRHI Officers and individual hotel properties on risk management and insurance matters and assist in complying with the rules and regulations of various local governments and other regulatory bodies as they pertain to such matters.
FRHI is one of the world's leading managers of luxury hotels and has operated hotels for over 120 years. FRHI manages approximately 95 luxury and first-class hotels and resorts principally under the Fairmont, Raffles, and Swissôtel brand names.
STATUS AND SCOPE:
Reports to Senior Risk Advisor of Risk Management Services
Assists with negotiating contracts of insurance covering property, general liability, directors & officers liability, motor vehicle liability, employment practices liability, aviation and other miscellaneous insurance policies involving premiums in excess of $20 million.
To analyze wordings of insurance policies placed direct for account of FRHI and obtained from outside parties for the benefit of FRHI as per contracts and agreements, with the objective of protecting FRHI's interests through adequate insurance coverage or risk transfer.
Directed by FRHI's senior management and shall conform to the operating policies and procedures of FRHI.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Formulates policies, strategies and plans to meet insurance and risk financing requirements on a Company wide basis. * Provides quality, timely consultative risk management and insurance advice to all business units, divisions, subsidiaries, joint ventures and partnerships, including insurance language to be incorporated in agreements. * Develops underwriting information required to negotiate corporate insurance coverages. * Assists Senior Risk Advisor with negotiations of contracts of insurance, including:
o Property insurance on buildings, contents and other assets in both cat and non-cat locations having a replacement cost value in excess of $10 billion
o General/umbrella liability insurance covering hotel operations
o Executive risk policies
o US Workers Compensation
* Reviews insurance proposals submitted by insurance companies and recommend best option best suited to the insured. * Keeps informed of significant asset acquisitions/divestitures and any change in activities having a major risk and insurance implication and subsequently recommend appropriate means to treat such exposures. * Prepares data on special insurance projects. * Verifies and approves payment of premiums. * Oversees the handling of claims on insurance. * Reviews contracts and agreements with outside parties and the examination and approval of outside parties' insurance.
RELATIONSHIPS:
* Regular contacts with FRHI Officers, corporate employees, hotel senior management and asset managers for owned and managed hotels participating in the group programs. * Regular contacts with insurance broker. * Maintain relationships with insurance companies. * Maintain relationships with risk management peer group as Member of:
o Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc., including its local chapter (various industries)
o American Hotels & Lodging Association (World class hotels & resorts managers)
PLANNING:
* Formulates policies, strategies and plans to meet insurance and risk financing requirements on a Company wide basis. * Manage and plan for insurance protection on new and acquired facilities and operations. * Keeps up-to-date on current developments and trends in the field of Risk Management within the hospitality industry in order to benchmark, plan or develop their possible application for FRHI's benefit.
AUTHORITY:
Authority to: Approve insurances required of outside parties under contracts and agreements with FRHI.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
* University Degree - B.Comm. * Diploma evidencing qualification as a Fellow or Associate of the Insurance Institute of Canada, or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
* 5 years experience in Risk Management field or in the Insurance Industry (other than Life) as an Insurance Broker or Underwriter.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
* Initiative. * Analytical ability. * Emotional stability and ability to handle deadlines. * Compatibility and the ability to obtain cooperation. * Strong communication skills.
