For this role we are seeking a highly experienced developer who has in-depth knowledge and experience of Sybase ASE and/or Sybase IQ.
 
The candidate should have a keen interest in the financial industry - market risk knowledge is an advantage. This role requires working closely with the front office risk team in addition to various technology teams. The position is for a senior developer in the equity derivatives market risk technology department. The application is a major SQL-based (Sybase ASE) global risk management system. Every night, every portfolio needs to be priced, not only to assess profit & loss but also to compute the Bank's exposure to changing market conditions.
 
This risk has to be delivered every day (via Excel and Web reports) and on time without fail for effective financial management and, critically, to meet regulatory requirements. This application offers performance challenges accessing the extremely high volume data warehousing.
 
For this role we are seeking a highly experienced Sybase developer who also has in-depth knowledge of both Sybase and performance tuning & optimisation. This role is a developer role but requires significant interaction with front office and technology teams.
 
The successful candidate will be expected to:

    * Provide strong technical input to the performance and functionality enhancement of the application
      Develop and maintain applications to function & technical specification

-Work within the quality assurance processes
- Liaise with users globally to understand requirements and identify technical solutions

    *  Assist in formulating technical development plans and to take responsibility for timely delivery of these tasks
    * Provide 3rd level support to the business

- Investigate, debug and resolve issues with the team's applications
- Liaise and work with those responsible for the operation of the application to resolve production issues

    * Become familiar with the financial products and other business aspects related to these application

Qualifications
Essential Skills:

    * Expert, in-depth knowledge Sybase ASE, with a minimum of 5 years of commercial experience
    * Delivery of SQL / relational database applications
    * Experience of accessing and presenting high data volumes efficiently and reliably
    * Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel: spreadsheet functions, charts, pivot tables
    * Solid design, coding, testing and debugging skills
    * Strong communication (written and verbal) and team working skills
    * Ability to work with remote teams
    * ·Ability to manage dependencies and proactively anticipate and creatively deal with issues
    * Ability to work under pressure whilst delivering results quickly and efficiently
    * Experience of working within a controlled software development lifecycle processes
    * Proficient in the use of UNIX, LINUX and Windows platforms
    * Highly motivated to learn and work with new technologies

Desirable Skills:

    * Experience with Sybase IQ, Microsoft Excel VBA, Java, Web development and/or in-memory distributed data management software
    * Experience working in an investment bank
    * DBA experience an advantage
    * Awareness of current trends and technologies within the development community
    * Working within a globally distributed client and peer groups
