This position will be part of a dynamic and fast paced Counterparty Risk Management Group, which is responsible for managing counterparty credit risks across Fannie Mae's various business units. The Counterparty Risk Analyst I will analyze financial statements and economic information across a portfolio of counterparties, largely comprised of banks, mortgage banks and broker dealers. In addition, he/she will participate in credit meetings with internal and external clients, make transaction recommendations and perform various ad hoc assignments.

  • Evaluate industry and company credit dynamics, the creditworthiness of individual counterparties, and develop industry, credit analysis expertise for commercial banks, mortgage banks, broker dealers and other corporate counterparties.
  • Analyze financial statements, issue credit opinions and prepare concise credit analysis detailing all key risks related to the business, industry and/or transaction and determine credit worthiness of counterparties.
  • Monitor a portfolio of counterparty accounts. Assist in the preparation of periodic sector and portfolio reviews for risk committees highlighting key industry drivers and how they impact individual Fannie Mae counterparties.
  • Evaluate current and potential credit exposure of counterparties and recommend internal risk grades and limits, monitor exposure vis-à-vis limits, and engage in loss mitigation activities.
  • Participate in transaction approvals. Identify and assess key risk factors and mitigants. Prepare, review, and recommend terms and conditions on deals and new clients.
  • Apply and evaluate credit management models developed by analytics group. May participate in developing new procedures, new analytical methods, or enhancements of proprietary systems used to analyze counterparty credit risk.
  • Conduct due diligence on potential new relationships with counterparties and develop recommendations memo to appropriate business unit Credit Committee(s).

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 0-3 years of related experience

  • Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting or equivalent.
  • Experience in analyzing the credit profile of issuers and/or counterparties with emphasis on the commercial bank, mortgage bank and finance sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write and present complex financial materials in a concise and coherent manner.
  • Knowledge of the commercial banking, multifamily finance, broker dealer and/or residential mortgage/housing
  • related sectors.
  • Working knowledge of capital markets (fixed income) products, and/or mortgage products.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team oriented environment.
  • Good quantitative and financial analysis skills.
