Position Overview

Job title: Divisional Risk and Control Specialist - Control Delivery Manager
Corporate title: Assistant Vice President
Division: Operations

You'll be joining the Chief Operating Office (COO), Divisional Control and Regulatory Office (DCRO) whose responsibilities focus on the assessment and mitigation of the operational risks in COO Corporate Services processes. DCRO will validate Deutsche Bank control policy implementation and provide oversight of risk and control processes.

You'll support the Corporate Services division globally, covering Real Estate, Corporate Security and Global Procurement. You will take a pro-active approach to co-ordinating appropriate risk and control activities, being a key point of contact for all control issues impacting Corporate Services. You should be comfortable with strategic change and be capable of supporting the transition of DCRO's support of Corporate Services to the targeted end state.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designing and implementing control risk assessments for deep dive reviews and ensuring adherence with the Risk and Control Assessment framework
  • Working closely with the regional Control Leads to deliver relevant and accurate risk assessments
  • Advising and assisting in mitigating risks that arise from weakness, errors and external event demands (audit and regulatory), in partnership with the division
  • Instilling a control mind-set across the organisation, ensuring that control focus is prominent
  • Following a disciplined approach to ensure that the team objectives are met and implemented by both Control and Corporate Service teams
  • Understanding the impact of errors, timely escalation, remediation and lessons learnt to facilitate reduction of operational losses or near misses
  • Managing incident reporting through the agreed frameworks and working extensively with the division to identify root causes and implement robust remediation plans
  • Ensuring senior stakeholders are informed and that corrective measures are assigned, tracked and closed
  • Educating and providing relevant training to promote awareness and accountability
  • Creating, assessing and challenging relevant control indicators
  • Undertaking intrusive analysis and, where required, driving through solutions
  • Pro-actively questioning and challenging the divisional teams to identify areas of potential weakness
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with the divisional teams and its management to build an effective partnership to reduce risks across the organisation
  • Understanding and implementing standards, contributing to the practical design of controls and monitoring their application
  • Participating in weekly and monthly risk and control calls to ensure risks identified are appropriately escalated and pro-actively investigated to ensure timely resolution
  • Supporting the business in relation to any ad-hoc crisis action plans or responses
  • Monitoring and understanding the impact of any change or initiatives (process, technology or regulatory) on the control environment
  • Understanding the fundamentals of the COO minimum standard control guidelines (STARC). Providing guidance to line management to ensure required certifications are completed within specified deadlines, and that appropriate action plans are implemented

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong control and operational risk management experience with an exposure to risk and control practices (Audit experience beneficial)
  • Demonstrates an inquisitive and probing approach to problem solving and general assessment
  • Embraces change and transformation to move towards the team's targeted future state
  • Ability to remain objective and to independently raise areas of operational risk exposure, whilst maintaining an effective working relationship with the division and other areas within the Bank
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment and always with professionalism
  • Strong ability to identify process inefficiencies, suggesting improvements and implementing where feasible
  • Analysis skills with a high attention to detail
  • Solid organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience of reporting to senior management
  • Good ability to interact with, collaborate, communicate and influence individuals at all levels
  • Ability to be open minded, sharing information and transferring knowledge and expertise to team members
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Effective problem solving and investigative skills and a strong decision making capability
  • Educated to Bachelor's degree level or above (or equivalent qualification / work experience)
  • Ability to or previous experience of operating in functional global teams
  • Demonstrable adherence to the Bank's Values and Beliefs
